Here's a couple of ideas that I've had for a while. They're pretty wild.

    • Mass Bot.This robot mounts itself to the arena walls, making its effective weight that of the entire arena. This mass advantage makes it a formidable opponent.

    • Death Star. This is a spherical robot. The geometric shape of a sphere provides vital protection against enemy weaponry. The Death Star would attack by shooting a 1.21 gigawatt laser powered by plutonium, or retractable spikes.

    • Stress Free Robot. Who says a robot needs to have solid, heavy armor? A lot of squishy padding will keep this robots innards safe when it gets hit, tossed, rammed, and the like. With enough defense, this robot can go on the offensive by absorbing its prey, like an amoeba.
    • The Kitten. By placing a live, adorable kitten on the robot, invincibility is gained. Matches are won by aggressive points.

    • Cash Cow. Cover the robot with real dollar bills, and the watch enemies cower away, as destroying money is illegal by US law.

Definitely like the death star and the mass bot ideas! Along the lines of the death star, one of our own UCSD grad students has been working on a spherical robot that can move. Check out http://robotics.ucsd.edu/ and click on the iceCube robot!

Here's some ideas of my own:

Trash compactor: This robot drives over the top of the other robot then slams down on top of it, compacting it into a pile of trash or trapping it underneath so that it can unleash your favorite weapon.

V-22 osprey spinner: Has two spinners that -could trap the opponent against the robot when the left side is spinning clock wise (see diagram below *=spinner on arm) and right side is spinning counter clock wise -could push the opponent away from the robot when left side is spinning ccw and the right side is spinning cw. – could pus the opponent to the left or the right when both left and right spinners are spinning ccw, cw respectively
