So, Allen and I were doing some brainstorming. We came up with the idea of building a new, better modular bot this year. Last year, we kinda planed for modularity, and based it around a pre fabricated spinner thing, hand a lame modular "lifter". and yhea. It basically was not very optimal. I propose this year, we make a TRUE optimized mod bot with new, effective configurations. Not a lamer configuration that we had this year.

Basically the drawings below depict the modularity. In this design, I choose to make the entire front part modular, this includes the front 2 drive wheels. The rear "teal" part contains all the batteries, electronics, and the rear wheels. The idea is that we swap out the entire front end for different fights.

Hammer against wedge and control bots. We will able to score points by hitting them.

Powered wedge for fighting spinners. The wedge can deflect attacks and the powered lifter wedge adds to that chaos.

"Nightmare" vertical spinning disk of death mode, so we can dish out some uber pwnage.

In reality, i don’t think the nightmare design can be pulled off. In fact, I think swapping out the entire front end is pretty radical. But definitely, we could be able to swap out different "control" type designs, like a hammer, lifter, powered wedge, 4bar lifter, jaws, maybe a drum or small vertical spinner. Maybe even have all those share the same axle. so all we need to do is put in a diff actuator and diff weapon.

    What do you guys think?

    Modular design again?

I definitely support the modular idea.

It'll save me a lot of sleep, since I've been trying to think of the "best" robot design. The modularity will enable is to pool all of our great ideas into one machine.

You know what would be really cool for modularity, though? If each of the 4 corners of the robot were "independent." Daniel and I were talking about the one robot idea, the one where the robot can fold in half, and it sounds like a flexible robot would be able to stand a lot of impact. For one, the shock is not transmitted throughout the robot, and secondly the robot will be less likely to get flipped or flung.

So, what if we made a robot where each quadrant can be replaced? It would make us really modular, as well as decrease repair times between matches.

Yea I also support modularity. It might also allow more members to become involved since there will be more parts to make, more things to cad, and basically more work to do.

I think the robot that can fold in half would be pretty cool. It might also be able to self right or adjust the angle of its weapons. The pivot could even be used to drive some of its weapons. I actually started cadding one but then midterms came around.

I like the idea of a modular robot. It allows us to be more versatile in terms of fighting different robots.
