okay well here is my crappy 45 minute solidworks of my robot concept.

the first picture is the partial drum with a shield that can lift w/ the drum as a flywheel for energy, the second one is with a fully offensive drum..

The wheels are cambered because I don't like box robot designs because they are boring :) .  Also, it lowers the center of gravity.  The middle flat plate in the middle isn't part of the frame, I just used it as a reference for mating and size constraints.  I believe the frame should be made of a combination of C brackets and sheet metal.  The main beefy part of the frame should be made with tubular elements connecting the robots left and right side.

I just made a fake weapon motor because its not really an important thing right now.  I really like to keep modularity in mind when making this kind of robot.  I didn't have time, but for a third version… there will be a full shield with a smaller/wider drum behind it that will power the shield as a fly wheel.

Pros: Lots of creativity for further concept generation, lots of parts = more participation in fabrication!, uniqueness

Cons: tricky to get everythign aligned, too many parts??, space restrictions for modularity

Also, I was thinking that we should make a 4 bar linkage for the shield.. but i'm too lazy right now.  I need to work on my 156a report sadly.

Feel free to give me some suggestions!

The modularity idea is pretty good. Although spinners are pretty boring, you did a pretty good job changing things up.

But then again, it's still a spinner. I feel like there are too many of those in Battlebots, so building one would make us less unique.

I vote for the weapon motor, we use an Etek, running it at 72volts. http://www.robotmarketplace.co…..TEKRT.html

Its what they use to power electric cars lullz.

I think logistically, it would be tough to do the KE flipper design. However, if those flippers were with just static wedges, i think this is a pretty cool design. But, if we just have static wedges, we can just beef up the spinner a bit, and it will be pretty formitable design, taking out the need of the enitre drum assemlby….

I think modularity is good if you can completley switch out the weapon type, ex: spinner to flipper, flipper to hammer, etc.  If you swtich out from a powerfull attack to a less powerful attack and more defense, i think you can find a non modular solution that can balance defense and offense better sicne you woudnt need to dedicate weight and strength for the modular element.

Hahaha, if we got one of those motors, I wonder if we'd be able to have a drive train that's powered by 1 motor. It'd be like this motorcycle:

Ok, anyway, getting back on topic, I think having those wedges double as flippers would be better than just having static wedges. Of course, to be effective flippers, I think the wedges should stick out further, so the fly-wheel won't be hit before the flippers can trigger.

Daniel makes the good point of being able to replace the entire front face with a different weapon system, though Ron's idea is pretty novel. I think if we made it right, the robot could benefit from both weapon modifications and replacements.

Maybe we could even swap out the 2 back wheels/motors for a hammer that homeruns robots that get flipped.
