Hey guys!
lets hear your opinions about forming a robogames team. So first some back ground info. Seems like lots of people try to focus on the diff between robogames and Battlebots, but they are basicly the same. Yhea, theres no arena hazards, yhea wedges are allowed, no strategy points, bla bla bla. It dosnt really matter since we will just build the best robot we are capable regadless of which competition we attend.
sooo, anyways, if there is enough interest in the RG team, this is what I plan:
1x 120lb robot
OR
2x 30lb robots
OR
3-4x insect robots (1lb or 3lb combat)
maybe an autonomous sumo robot
maybe a 30lb or 60lb robot
Well, lets hear it. What are your people's opinions on building these bots for RG?
Again, this is so we dont have a massive group working on one robot.

Sure I'm up for a robogames team. I think the 30, 120, and 60 all sound good.

Cool,
There is some interest. Inorder to form a RG team, we will probably need like 6-10 people total. Also, funding will be a pretty big issue…
Heres another idea I came up with:
We could build 2x 3lb robots for fun, not neccsarily to compete at RG.
-The 3lb bots can be used to practice solidworks and building
-the 2 bots can be used for demos for our club
-the bots can be used for driving practice for the bigger bots.
What do you guys think?

I'm up for RGs. I have no idea how big or how small an average 30lb or 3lb robot is in a general sense. Although the idea of 2 x 30lbs sounds good for competition. However, I think the practice and having fun part that daniel mentioned sounds good.

I would put my vote for the 120 lb robot. It would provide the best cross-over training for the BattleBots team. That way, people who do RoboGames this year can use their experience to power the BattleBots team next year.
Of course, the 30 or 60 lb robots provide design and manufacturing experience, but doing another 120 lb robot would give them the best sense of what kind of materials and parts to use.
Besides, by doing another 120 bot, we give ourselves the option to "mix and match" robots between the two competitions. So, if the BattleBots robot somehow fails or breaks, we'd at least have a back-up. Vice-versa, if for some reason the RG robot becomes inoperable after registration, they can still use a repaired 120 lb. And it's not just whole robots, I'm sure we'll have interchangable parts, such as speed controllers and batteries, so at least that would all be consistent.
Here's a visual comparison of the sizes:
