Recap – Oct2 Meeting
Filed under Meeting NotesOct 2Thanks to all that came to our meeting!
This meeting, we introduced members to SolidWorks, the virtual modeling software we will be designing with.
We recommend that all members download the trial version, which can be found here:
http://www.solidworks.com/sw/esp/4644_ENU_HTML.htmCurrently, we are working on getting year long licenses, but for now, getting a free trial will work well.
For the next meeting, we will start off with a brainstorming session for various robot designs. We will be looking into the pros and cons of each concept. This is what engineering is all about! After that, we will try to build the parts in SolidWorks.
Members are encouraged to bring in hand-sketches or SolidWorks designs of their ideas!
So far, the plan for Triton Robotix is to host a mini-robot fighting tournament as well as competing in the nationally televised BattleBots event. Members will team up to build 3-lb robots for the mini-robot competition. Afterward, the best design will be voted on to become the 120-lb BattleBot.
Details on the mini-robot competition are still being finalized, particularly on the rule set.
Also, funding for Triton Robotix is becoming tighter and tighter. So, if anyone has any fund raising ideas, do not hesitate to suggest them. The more money the club has, the better robots and events it’ll have.
