UCSD Triton Robotix

Let the robots be built.

  • Nov 5

    Hey everyone,

First, just a quick recap of last meeting: We now have 5 different ant weight designs that we will build. In addition there is a team of SWE people, so so far, we will have 6 robots for our competition.

We then had an open forum for the strengths, weakness, and issues of the 5 ant weight designs.
    Some important points brought up:

    • Simplicity – easier to repair, easier to build, cheaper, less chance of failure
    • Invertibility – Will you lose when flipped? Will you still be effective upside down?
    • Tradeoffs – all designs have weaknesses and strengths, how to overcome and balance them?

And now, the moment you have all been waiting for: Signups

Here are the signups for the ant weights. Open the google document, fill out your name, email, and year underneath the robot you would like to join. There are no terms, conditions, prerequisites, or requirements. Do not be afraid to just put your name on a project that seems interesting. If you don’t know anything about design or mechanics, join a team and learn! These teams are made to be learning experiences.

    Deadline: November 10, 2010

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

    See you next week.

Important: If you are, or want to be a project lead, come earlier at around 4:00. If you just want to hang out with the cool kids, you can come early too.

    Anyways,

There will be a meeting, same place, same time, you know the drill.

We will be forming teams for the insect robots, as well as going over designs.

In addition, ill give some tips and such.

This is a somewhat important meeting, so please come.

    See you at the meeting!

    Other news:

    New robot designed by Bryan!

    Also, robotix has money again!

    Hey Everyone,

Please come to the Solidworks training session tomorrow in the MAE3 computer lab. I will be giving a crash course on how to make parts and assemblies. Bring your laptop if you can, because it is easier to learn on your own machine than the lab’s.

Hopefully, by the end of the session, you will have made a robot!

    To reiterate:

    Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the meeting today. Today we did some theoretical calculations of a few different types of weapons.

Also, there will be a meeting Friday 12-2pm in 239 lab for solidworks. I will send out another reminder email.

Finally, I attached the parts. So, go finish your CAD!

    Hey everyone,

I would just like to update everyone on our progress before this Wednesday meeting.

    SWE:

First of all, I have challenged SWE (Society of Women Engineers http://swe.ucsd.edu/) and they have accepted.

They have already formed a team of SWE peoples and have a budget to build an Antweight to compete at our competition.

So, they will be joining us for meetings and such. Hopefully they get these Robotix emails.

I will also try to invite IEEE and AIAA. If you guys have any requests or contacts, let me know.

For team lead applications, click on “read more.”
